
Acting Laboratories
Training artists to inspire the next generation​

Theater Wheel’s Teaching Artist Training & Professional Laboratories develop emerging and professional dual-language artists while creating a sustainable teaching artist pipeline for performance and educational programming.
These labs are the main pathway for identifying, training, and selecting performers for Theater Wheel productions and school-based workshops.


Phase 1: Public
Duration: 3 weeks, 4 days per week
Led by specialized instructors in core disciplines

Miguel Perez: Acting Technique
Marycarmen Portillo: Scenic Movement
George Duran: Voice Technique

Training Focus:
Ensemble-based exercises on each area, character development, and collaborative creation
Monologue and scene presentations for instructor evaluation
Outcomes:
Participants demonstrating strong performance ability and collaboration are invited to the casting process for Theater Wheel’s production.

Instructor fees and expenses are covered through grants and project funding.
Commitment to equitable access for students and artists
Recognition
Participants in Theater Wheel’s Laboratories receive official acknowledgment of their training hours, certificates of completion, or other formal recognition where possible, highlighting their skills as dual-language teaching artists.



Phase 2: Actor Production & Pedagogical Training
Once the cast is decided, actors enter an intensive program preparing them as performers and dual-language teaching artists.
Duration: 5 hours per day

Structure
The cast schedule is flexible and rotates as the program progresses. Rotating schedule ensures personalized attention to students and community, while developing technical, artistic, and educational skills for touring performances and school workshops.
